The capital of Laos on the banks of the Mekong bordering Thailand, we traveled by the new, China funded fast train from Luang Prabang. It was a seamless two hours. Work occupied my whole very short visit making pictures impossible minus a few from the train and our dinner. Vientiane won best mango and sticky rice desert as shown, with butterfly pea flower/purple colored sticky rice and 4 scoops of ice cream, two coconut, one chocolate and one vanilla, surrounded by a heart of the most sweet and delicous mango we have tasted. T1D anyone? Lol. Thank goodness we were only there for 24 hours and S only was able to order it twice! She also loved the 'free' robes and stuffed animal at the hotel, but when she tried to leave with stuffed animal the hotel quickly indicated it was for in room use only. Weird but atleast she had a creature comfort for an overnight! The local 'news' paper front pages have some interesting perspectives here.
I'll mention that I had a massive pang of homesickness in this brief window, stuck at a hotel working and wondering what we are doing. But one look at S's face and seeing K and S discuss geographies and currencies and economies and I know what we are doing. I'm homesick and tired but oh so grateful to be seeing the world with these two amazing people and hopefully sharing some places you've once been or will add to your future plans. Happy Valentine's day:-) P.S. the Dex Coffee logo was quite a knock off fromnfar away! We arrived at the airport at got excited that we might be able to add to our around the world espresso cup collection from Starbies but not so!
