Perhaps because Henry spent a summer working and living here in Stockholm, we were excited to see it. Mom loves Stockholm. We expected something more like Copenhagen but Stockholm is more like a large and fancy cross between Boston and some nice parts of NY all while wrapping around water. Not surprising, Dad preferred Copenhagen's 'cafe culture' as he calls it. The Old Town is just like a little Italy. This is often referred to as the Venice of the North but the city is so much more vibrant. A few chains we are surprised to see here: Footlocker, Subway, Brandy Melville. A few great finds-- delicious shrimp salad, fennel sausage, swedish meatballs, Scarlett's bubble waffle ice cream made fresh in front of us. Dont try-fast food here. Its not the same. Period. And thats a good thing. We toured the Royal Palace which is actively used for events and policy mtgs, and saw a Kurd demonstration. We had an amazing lunch on the pier and breakfast in the hotel is served in the adjoining theater which is very unique!
