Siem Reap

We traveled by coach from Phnom Penh over 8 hours stopping in a small local village and for lunch in Kompong Thom. The village was filled with children who welcome the buses for candy treats and other giveaways from tourists. We met this sweet baby girl, again with no shoes but a phone in hand. The families live in hammocks under open cabins because its cooler. S handed out candy and I gave away some clothes and shoes we did not need. Dust from the statue making behind the village was a bit overwhelming. No health safety measures here.

The countryside is covered with rice fields, farming and water lilies. Also roadside stands for food. We cant get over the open air meat markets--cooked and uncooked--but sitting out in 100 degree heat. No one seems phased. This is the norm. Eggs sit out as well. And milk for teas might be in a 'cooler' but on no ice.

We spent the evening in Siem Reap. Siem Reap was a fun town with a great energy. The tourists are there to see Angkor Wat, but create a lively night scene as well. We found some authentic tasting pizza, which was a welcome change!
