Mendoza, Argentina

We had our first family member join us when we arrived in Mendoza Argentina-yeah for K2! It is wonderful to see a familar and loving face and to share some of this crazy adventure. Mendoza will get a few posts, here I simply want to focus on the start and the unique economic system.

Imagine a country where everything has to be paid in cash to make it 50% off but the largest bill is a $3 bill. Imagine a country where Western Union is your best friend. Welcome to Argentina. Needless to say currency has been a challenge--calculating, carrying, exchanging. Note the image that looks like a million bucks. Its actually $30 US dollars. There are no coins here. Only bills. Even for cents.

Also, whiles its home to Malbec wines, I did not know that cabernet franc is cabernet sauvignon and sauvignon blanc blended. Did you?

Mendoza is hot. 95 and strong sun. For now....
