We have identified a few places we would absolutely love to return to and Madrid is high on the list. If we were doing this experiment as a long stay in 2-3 places we would definitely pick Madrid. This was about the most approachable, comfortable, beautiful and walkable city of all. We stayed in the Centro region right by Plaza De Las Cortez and the exceptional Neptune Fountain. I am disappointed I didnt get any great fountain picks as we were so busy moving around and took a day of this stop to rent a car and visit ortholite, the awesome, sustainable insole maker that Scarlett Chase has collaborated with to create an industry first, rebounding foam, orthotic grade, heel cupping and all around magic insole that exclusively fits in our shoes. This is only one element of 7 truly unique features, but one that was a true labor of love to perfect.
Back to Madrid, this was our home base before and after Porto. Whats to love about Madrid? Absolutely everything. The tapas scene is incredible, cheap delicious eats absolutely everywhere. The Grand Vie feels like a manageable Times Square. The Prado is beautiful. The fountains are amazing. Plaza Mayor is so beautiful Id like to take an apartment overlooking the hectic square despite its noise. Plaza del Sol with its Tio Pepe sign, despite construction was still a must see. S and K were also huge fans. Madrid would be the place, along with Stockholm and Copenhagen, that Id hope our kids might spend a year. S will definetly push for all three, but by far she didnt want to leave Madrid. We enjoyed an amazing food tour, tested our luck at the 'Brutal Bar' for Kraken (octopus) drinks, and enjoyed lots of walking the beautiful streets. We also caught a little bit of the Real Madrid game before flying out of town.
