Hoi An, Vietnam

Updated: Mar 4, 2023

Hoi An was a Central Vietnam MWT top destination! From the amazing culture and food to the lights and local flavor, we loved Hoi An. We will particularly remember the rolled ice cream and lanterns, boats at night that dotted the canal and bike rides, Morning Glory restaurants (two!) and the French vibe and architecture. Hoi An had great food and a festive environment right on the river.

We visited two homes now hosting generations 7 and 8 demonstrating the classic Feng Shui design and integrating the 5 elements of fire, wind, water, wood and metal. A rectangular shape with a central open air courtyard is common as is the inlaid mother of pearl wall art.

We found our first nail appointment in 6 months and had a sweet little dress made, an activity well known in Hoi An. The silk thread art and clothes making is its own post. The hand work is just amazing.

As always, great photos and commentary. In early April I will be meeting up with 3 golfing buddies in Naples, FL that I have known for about 30 years. I used to work with them at Sanders/BAE Systems in Nashua, NH, until we all retired. They all served in Vietnam, two in the Air Force and one in the Marines. I will bring my laptop and show them the Vietnam posts, at least. I'll be interested to hear their comments. Things were quite different when they were there in the late 60s and early 70s.
