We left the falls and headed to one last destination to complete our first half of the MWT before heading home for the holidays. We had heard about the southern Brazil coast from a few folks, although its definetly more of a locals spot than foreigners. This became clear when we realized that Portuguese really is the only language here. We are so spoiled as english speakers; this was our first stop where english, and K's spanish, which has been invaluable and part of the home schooling curriculum, were insufficient.
In addition, after basically 100 days of solid weather, we hit the trifecta of pouring, rather miserable weather days. A brief drive around shows the flooding which occurs quickly with poor, rural roads. Fortunately we had work to do and the sound of the surf out the window, even with a steady rain above it, was a glorious backdrop. We did take a short day trip to visit Blumenau, a German inspired makeshift village that is the place to be in Oktoberfest, and a holiday village this time of year.
The rain kept the weather cool but still pleasant to be outside. S found some fantastic acai bowl vendors as we passed the time awaiting our flights home. We also spent time revisiting our favorite spots and moments in Scandinavia, Africa and South America which are featured in the next and final post of the first half. Happily, its time to click our red heels and head to the best place on earth--home.
