Addis Abeba, Ethiopia

A poor country with now a 50/50 split between Christian and Muslim faiths, transportation that ranges from donkey to tuk tuk to small cars intermixed on the roads along with endless pedestrians on foot, visiting Ethiopia's most populist city of Addis was quite an experience. This is where the African Union convenes and many UN reps are stationed, and Addis boasts a fairly new government that is working hard to improve quality of life. The civil war was in its final stages, and now resolved, causing only several check points between Addis and Debre Birhan to take some

extra time. Debre Birhan is where the Haile Manas Academy is located (HMA). K is on the board and gave a wonderful speech to the whole school! We were able to stay in a new Hyatt when we weren't at the school which felt like a NYC hotel. We enjoyed a festive traditional dinner in Addis with a member of HMA. We did suffer a touch of a stomach something, but all in all it was amazing to see this place and imagine it will look quite dlifferent in future years. Note the set of goats strapped to the top of the green bus.
